Sales, Upkeep and available cash · A reported diagnosis

Why cash can go negative when Sales exceed Upkeep

The short answer

In ONE PIECE: Grand Gourmet, compare Upkeep with the cash you still have before closing, not only with the day's Sales total. One Steam player reports that Sales accumulate while cash is received during the day; spending that cash before the one-time upkeep deduction left their balance negative.

The original question gives a striking mismatch: Sales of 500,000 and Upkeep of 100,000, yet a loss. The reply describes the author's own experience with spending before settlement, but explicitly does not confirm that this is the original poster's cause. Use it as a check, not a universal explanation.

Compare the figures at the same moment

  1. Note your current cash before the closing deduction. Keep the displayed Sales total separate.
  2. Review what you spent during that day, including purchases or activities you chose. A high cumulative Sales figure does not show how much of that money is still unspent.
  3. Read the closing breakdown, including the displayed Upkeep and staff payments, and compare it with the balance you recorded.
  4. If spending before closing explains the shortfall, postpone an optional purchase and leave enough current cash for the displayed closing costs. Check the next settlement rather than assuming the displayed Sales total is a second payment waiting to arrive.

A simple balance example

Illustrative arithmetic, not a game formula: if you have 80,000 available immediately before a 100,000 deduction, that deduction leaves -20,000. A larger Sales total earlier in the day does not make the 80,000 balance larger again.

If the numbers still do not reconcile

Keep the current balance, daily spending, closing figures and game version together for a support report. This single player's explanation cannot rule out another cost, a different display meaning in your version, or a bug.

The guide does not establish a hidden-fee formula, menu-price link, guaranteed profit route or late-game progression fix.

✓ How to check the result

You can tell the day's cumulative Sales figure from the cash actually available before deductions.

Only call this explanation a match if the timing and amounts account for your own shortfall.
